As a pioneer of biological wastewater treatment, MacKinney (emeritus, U. of Kansas, Lawrence) characterizes this update of his classic Microbiology for Sanitary Engineers (1962) as a summation of the information he has found useful as a practitioner rather than as a comprehensive textbook in the rapidly evolving field of environmental pollution control. Chapters cover topics rooted in conventional microbiology and chemistry: bacteria and their growth patterns, water and solid wastes, and hazardous wastes.
