This text explores the writings of Betsey Chamberlain, a nineteenth century Native American mill worker. In an extensive introductory section, independent scholar and reference librarian Ranta provides background information on Chamberlain's life and family and critically examines her writings. Thirty-four of Chamberlain's literary contributions—ranging from humorous autobiographical sketches to pieces protesting the treatment of women and Native Americans—are then presented.
