Nicolais and Carotenuto, both affiliated with the Institute of Composite and Biomedical Materials of Italy's National Research Council, present recent work on the properties, preparation, and applications of metal-polymer nanocomposites. Coverage progresses from the chemical and physical properties of nano-sized metals through different approaches to the synthesis of metal-polymer nanocomposites, characterization techniques, and applications in color filters, polarizers, optical sensors, and nonlinear optical devices.
