In a volume that can serve as either a reference or a teaching text, researchers from around the world present the theory of the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT), a new tool for data analysis, and its application to structural, seismic, and ocean engineering. An initial chapter reviews the theoretical background and some new developments, and each author does the same on a narrower scale before addressing a specific application. The topics include the carrier and riding wave structure of rogue waves, near-shore sea waves, transient signal detection using the empirical mode decomposition, an HHT-based approach to quantifying nonlinear soil amplification and damping, and analyzing molecular dynamics simulation.
